  15. <p>     DIED. Xavier Cugat, 90, much married bandleader who
  16. popularized the rumba at such night spots as Los Angeles'
  17. Cocoanut Grove and New York's Waldorf-Astoria; in Barcelona.
  18. The dapper Spanish-born violinist conducted with his bow and
  19. kept a shimmying singer at his side. Three of them, Carmen
  20. Castillo, Abbe Lane and Charo, were among his five wives.
  21. "Cugie" estimated he had spent $20 million, much of it in
  22. alimony, but insisted his exes had remained "pals."
